ONE OF TOP 50 JAZZ VOCALISTS OF ALL TIME! - Jazz Hot Jeri Brown has earned a reputation as one of jazz' most outstanding “artistic" vocalists including the distinction from the French publication Jazz Hot of being one of top 50 jazz vocalists of all time. Brown's illustrious international performance and recording career over a 20 year span has consistently conveyed her artistic signature. In 12 spectacular recordings for Justin Time Records, and Jongleur Records she is committed to the legacy of vocal jazz. Ms. Brown's performances have filled the historical spectrum of classic American songbook themes, original jazz compositions, and contemporary world themes with intense vocal improvisations, and include collaborations with diverse, legendary jazz artists. WELCOME Thank you, East Coast Music Association for the nomination of best jazz c.d. I am all sold out! I was surprised by the popularity of this project. I guess I will have to put more ‘in the oven’! Show Choir Canada Championship in Toronto at the Sony Centre has been the musical highlight for me so far this year. What a refreshing music genre. Glee pilot cast members from Burbank, California performed in super star fashion! I enjoyed presenting my workshop and participating ‘Jay Lo’ style as a guest judge over the days competitions. I look forward to working with the organizers in the future and now with emerging show choirs everywhere! I have begun to write my latest play about – what else – show choir mania! I am also happy to be part of the c.d. recording and upcoming tour of the latest music project – Sojourner Truth under the direction of famed Avery Sharpe which will be released worldwide late spring. Dates are being set as I write this note. The tone for me for the rest of the year, however, will be a low one, as I take time out to reflect on family. My mother passed recently. Life’s adventure continues after some soul searching and healing. Once there, I am gearing up for Jan. 2013 and my first world tour in several years. Stay tuned. A new c.d. will accompany the tour. Montreal, Quebec -- Jongleur held a lovely recital recently at Crowley Arts Centre with guest performer Moh Javadi, and guest Montreal music teachers Myrtle Thomas, Simon Sloutsker, Melissa Furlotte, Chris Tauchner and Philippe Belanger. Selected participants performed selections ranging from Hit the Road, Jack, Christmas Lullaby, Summertime, Gentle Rain and Twinkle Little Star. This event marked a successful peliminary period of open house activities before the start up of classes at the school beginning this May. In addition to the open house event, the event marked the second educational event held at Crowley Artts Center since the announcement of the appointment of Jeri Brown as Events/Program Director & Artistic Consultant beginning January 2011. Ms. Brown's stint at the centre has been filled with meeting and consulting emerging artists. in addition to her career as a music performer, recording artist, and producer, Jeri Brown is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Music at Montreal’s Concordia University, specializing in jazz, vocal studies, fine arts management and world music history.
