“One of the top 50 jazz vocalists of all time.” - Jazz Magazine, France

MUSIC ARTIST:

Poet, Jeri Brown is an African American griotte vocal artist of praise and love songs and classic jazz. As an internationally recognized vocal recording artist. "I was part of the civil rights era and marched. I was bused to a black school and witnessed a lot of racist events in St. Louis. When I was bused to a mixed school we had separate lunches, gym times, and white kids said nasty things. I can't believe I'm old enough to remember this stuff, but it apparently runs deep in my memories. So today I feel like an advocate for peace. And because stage, recordings and films are my platforms, I don't ever think I'm just a diva adorned in a beautiful dress or kept like an urn on a mantel. I believe [we] performers have the ability to affect humanity and spirituality always. And if not now, when?"
Convinced that it is far better to give than to receive, Jeri annually performs for charitable organizations and produces film and theater projects that tap into cultural mosaics, discovering and showcasing emerging talent, and presenting cultural, historical tributes.

She has earned a reputation as one of jazz’s most outstanding "artistic" vocalists. With many fine musicians who are labeled "artistic," it’s sometimes overlooked how richly musical, thoroughly accessible and enjoyable their music can be. Jeri Brown is focused, ambitious, daring and intent upon creating music that is both well conceived and honest. Brown is well known for performing and recording with passion and dedication.

Several of Jeri's humanitarian efforts have appeared on jazz film and audio productions which continue to rotate in international airplay for BET, BRAVO, World Vision, Radio France and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Of note is Jeri's October 2001 "Peace Concert Tour" of France and Turkey one month after the September 11 tragedy, was recorded in a live recorded concert on Radio France. Selections are featured in her 2020  HUMAN TOUCH memoir album release.

In 2015, Jeri Brown founded her own society, Jongleur Theatre Company aka Jongleur Opera Company, committed to providing local talent with education and performance opportunities.

In addition to regularly giving benefit concerts, plays and productions for social service charities for  Immigration Museum of Canada at Pier 21, Ms. Brown has also included productions for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Centraide, Canadian Diabetes Association, World Vision, and CRUDEM. Such efforts have  produced and provided support through scholarship, mentorship and training.
